Heads Together combines a public awareness-raising campaign to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health with a series of innovative programmes to make sure that people are able to access help when they need it most.
In 2016, The Royal Foundation launched Heads Together as a national campaign to move the dial on mental health. It brought together eight charity partners, each specialising in a different area of mental health, with decades of experience. It was wonderful to see that following the campaign, research showed that the UK saw an uplift in the number people comfortable talking about their mental health, demonstrating that the stigma is becoming less common.
Whilst there is still work to be done and Heads Together continues to campaign and raise awareness, Heads Together is now also focused on supporting those who have had the courage to seek help for their mental health. In partnership with expert charities, Heads Together is developing programmes in schools, in the workplace in the military and digitally, to support people to find the right help for their mental health.
Highlights to Date
2018 saw the launch of Mentally Healthy Schools and Mental Health at Work, online portals to provide much-needed resources for employers and schools. To support the military community, Heads Together announced a partnership with the Ministry of Defence to introduce mandatory ‘mental fitness’ training. Heads Together also granted £2million to facilitate the launch of the UK’s first crisis text line, ‘Shout’, which has already received over 25,000 texts.
